Mega Disaster Mock Drill Successfully Conducted at Ramesh Nagar Metro Station Under the Leadership of SDM Shri Nitin Shakya

New Delhi:
As part of the National Capital Region’s largest-ever disaster preparedness initiative, ‘Exercise Suraksha Chakra’, a full-scale mock drill was successfully conducted today at Ramesh Nagar Metro Station, under the visionary leadership of Shri Nitin Shakya, Sub Divisional Magistrate (West Delhi).

The drill was organized by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with the Trinity Foundation, Delhi Police, and the Government of Delhi, with the objective of simulating a coordinated emergency response to large-scale disasters such as earthquakes and industrial chemical accidents.

Coordinated Execution with Real-Time Tracking and Metro Integration

Ramesh Nagar Metro Station, identified as a high-footfall urban transit zone, served as the central site for Delhi’s field simulation. The exercise was specifically designed to test inter-agency coordination during a major earthquake scenario, particularly during peak metro hours and high-traffic conditions.

A key feature of the drill was the use of real-time ambulance tracking, enabling health teams to effectively navigate congested routes and provide timely medical support. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also provided critical support in simulating emergency passenger evacuations, platform-level triage, and command coordination, all while maintaining operational continuity.

Participating emergency services included:
    •    Delhi Police
    •    Fire Department
    •    Civil Defence Units
    •    DMRC Emergency Response Teams
    •    Health Services
    •    Trinity Foundation Field Coordinators
    •    Community Volunteers

Leadership & Ground Supervision

Under the direct supervision of Shri Nitin Shakya, SDM (West Delhi), the entire drill was executed with precision and strong inter-agency collaboration, while also maintaining clear communication with the public.

Representing the Trinity Foundation, Dr. Sameer Bhati and Rajiv Kumar played a pivotal role in the on-ground supervision and coordination of the drill. Working closely with field officers and emergency responders, they ensured seamless execution across all touchpoints—from public engagement to rescue operations, medical response, and crowd management.

“Such exercises are vital for preparedness. Real-time response, field integration, and public participation can make all the difference in saving lives,” said Dr. Sameer Bhati, Trinity Foundation.

“We are proud to support this mission alongside government agencies. It reflects our commitment to public safety and emergency readiness,” added Rajiv Kumar, Trinity Foundation.

Suraksha Sathi: Empowering Communities for Crisis Response

This mock drill is part of a larger vision initiated under the leadership of Shri Nitin Shakya, who has also pioneered the ‘Suraksha Sathi’ initiative in West Delhi. The program aims to build grassroots resilience by training citizen first responders in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and crisis management.

To date, over 50,000 Suraksha Sathis have been successfully trained under this initiative, empowering schools, communities, and institutions to respond effectively during emergency situations.

The initiative continues to receive strong public support and is playing a critical role in institutionalizing community-level disaster response capacity.

Timeline of ‘Exercise Suraksha Chakra’
    •    July 29 – High-Level Strategy Meeting at Manekshaw Centre
Senior officers reviewed disaster risk profiles and developed coordinated response plans.
    •    July 30 – Tabletop Exercise (TTEx)
Command-level officers conducted scenario-based testing of emergency protocols.
    •    August 1 – Full-Scale Mock Drill
Implemented simultaneously across 18 districts in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, simulating earthquake and chemical emergency scenarios.

Public Advisory & Awareness

The public was notified in advance to ensure smooth execution and prevent panic. Authorities clarified that the increased movement of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire brigades, and police units was part of the planned drill. Citizens were urged to remain calm and cooperate, recognizing this as an important step toward disaster resilience and community safety.
