Ramgarh (Jharkhand):

In a significant step towards promoting sustainable livelihoods in Jharkhand’s coal belt, a high-level delegation from the Retailers Associated Skill Council of India (RASCI) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) visited the IACT Education Training Centre in Ramgarh to review the progress of a special skill development initiative for coal mining-affected youth.

The visit focused on monitoring the implementation and impact of the project, which has been specially designed to empower young beneficiaries from the mining-affected Mandu block. The initiative aims to equip local youth with industry-relevant retail and employability skills, enabling them to transition into sustainable non-mining career pathways.

Direct Interaction with Beneficiaries

During the visit, GIZ officials Ms. Usha Ganesh, Mr. Abhishek, and Mr. Rustom interacted extensively with trainees to collect first-hand feedback and assess training quality. The officials engaged with students to understand their learning experiences, career aspirations, and the effectiveness of the curriculum being delivered at the centre.

Mr. Sivakumar Ganesh, Senior Manager from the Retailers Associated Skill Council of India (RASCI), also participated in the review process, ensuring alignment with national skill standards and certification benchmarks. Representing IACT Education, Mr. Dheeraj Shekhar, Administrator, accompanied the delegation and provided insights into operational progress, student performance metrics, and placement preparedness.

Positive Learning Outcomes Observed

The students, many of whom belong to families historically dependent on the coal mining sector, shared their transformation journeys and expressed satisfaction with the hands-on training approach. Several trainees highlighted improved confidence, communication skills, and enhanced employability prospects as key outcomes of the program.

Officials from RASCI and GIZ appreciated the structured training methodology, industry-aligned curriculum, and the supportive learning environment created at the Ramgarh centre. They also emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring and outcome-based training delivery to ensure long-term socio-economic impact.

Strengthening Sustainable Livelihoods

The review visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of RASCI, GIZ, and IACT Education towards inclusive development and workforce transition in mining-affected regions. The project stands as a strong example of public-private-international collaboration aimed at addressing livelihood challenges while building future-ready skills among marginalized youth.

With continued support and strategic implementation, the initiative is expected to create meaningful employment opportunities and contribute to regional economic stability in Jharkhand’s coal belt.
